You are probably running as user "citadel" in a directory which belongs to root or someone else?

Tue Jun 25 2013 11:16:21 CEST from alexp1988 @ Uncensored Subject: New to this!

citadel Unable to allocate the space required for /usr/local/citadel/netconfigs/8.2: Permission denied

As in on the server itself? It may well have been running at root as I had just finished installing the server. I will try it again now, running as a user.

I ran the easy install again which updated a few things (must have been because I was installing on ubuntu 12.04 to start). As a user adding a POP3 account worked fine.

I can now send and receive emails form the server, however when I send the emails it comes from a different address to what I set in my contact information (the same address as my POP3 email)? Is there any way I can change this?

Thanks

Halo,

I am new to citadel and I am facing the same problem here in this post.

When I want to add retrieval account, it show the following:

Unable to allocate the space required for /usr/local/citadel/netconfigs/26.5: Permission denied

(I tried before that it's 8.x?? instead of 26.5?)

Here is what I do.

setup a new Ubuntu Server 12.04.4 LTS

by following the easy installation process of ubuntu, i run the following command.

of course, I run those install command after sudo su

after the configuration,i want to get the email from my pop3 email server.

i login as the admin user and go to set the pop3 email host name.

then, it show that message.

I have tried to create a new user and do it again, but it show similar thing.

I have read this post and I still do not know what's wrong with it?

during the easy installation, if I do not use sudo su, I cannot install citadel.

Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

you need to allow the citadel user to write to that directory.

the x.y is a temporary file, which is first created to ensure no data is lost in case of filesystem fillup; its renamed afterwards.

chown & chmod are your friends; use ps to find out the user.

Hello,
Yes,I have tried to chown the folder and it let me do with no problem.

1) But the issue is that, when I do easy installation, I though it is supposed that everything would be setted correctly by default after installation.
Why I would still need to set the permission?

2) Besides this folder, are there any other folders that I need to set the permission directly? Or, are there any other similar setting that I need to set by myself?

3) Or, is that I am doing the incorrect procedure during my installation? If I do a fresh install again, what should I need to do to prevent this kind of manual setting?

Thanks.

Subject: CREU with LDAP auth should allow internet email rx before first login

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Folks,

LDAP auth creates a new 'middle ground' between full citadel aide access and user access.   Citadel would do well to accommodate this.   Citadel is a great 'all in one' integrated answer to email reception and delivery that avoids 'configuration hell' of the various individual packages.

Issues hampering broader acceptance in such setups include:

Accepting internet email before the first user log in, if their account is on the ldap server.  Note some users may only access citadel with imap or pop3, never once logging in via webcit or the text client.  Indeed the citadel aide may not know the user's password at all. (It's stored only in hashed form on the ldap server).

Scanning the ldap server every hour or so to see if new users have been created.

Creating a vcard from the ldap contents, while allowing citadel edits to fields not on the ldap server.  (while NOT updating the citadel db if the vcard and the ldap info is in agreement).

Making the ldap search attribute a configurable item while retaining the defaults for active directory and posix.  (I like  cn=%s).

I have some patches that do this, but they are quite rough.  I had to add an item to the config, and create an ugly hack that allows vcard updates if not logged in only if ldap updated the vcard.  You folks who understand citadel quite well I'm sure would prefer your own approaches to mine.

In what sense?  In any case; see if you have a 'room' titled Sent Items in your My Folders list...

Subject: Installation aborted!

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi I tried the Easy Install on Ubuntu server 12.10. It aborted and suggested I look in the logs. Here it suggested I should install something called zlib. Not in the Ubuntu depository so I looked on the web and found a page dedicated to it, but not clear how to proceed. Is there a deb package? Are there other dependencies that will be required. There was also this line in the logs, just before the zlib issue - checking minix/config.h usability... no

Is there a reason the Easy Install does not contain all dependencies?

Thanks for any help.

Attention please:

Due to the increasing number of support requests being inappropriately posted to the developer forum, the Citadel Development room is now accessible by invitation only. I have pre-granted access to the active developers and "friends of the project" of whom I am aware. If I missed anyone, please let me know.

Access to the developer forum does not require that one must be a core developer of the project. However it does require the ability to read and follow written guidelines regarding what is and is not acceptable conversation in a developer forum.

Are you sure, that you haven't zlib in the ubuntu repository? Maybe you need the dev package.

To elaborate, I have no room called Sent Items when I logon to the web client.  I installed Citadel using:
sudo apt-get install citadel-suitesudo
last week on Debian 6.x (squeeze).

If any developers monitor this list I'd also like to say congratulations on creating a product that installs so easily.

Subject: Questions: sending mail from unsensored, talker(?)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi, i have a couple of simple questions:

I have an account on uncensored.citadel.org and to my joy i find i have a nice email address. I can receive mail from outside but i cannot send mail, and get an error message, " You do not have permission to send network mail" .  Is uncensored a demo version of a citadel server for the public to poke around on, aswell as being a BBS etc...? (AKA can iz getz permissions to send emails? :P).

Also the chat function:  i have tried using the web chat thingey, and i'm not sure if it is like an irc channel i.e shared. I have just logged in via telnet to the BBS and am trying to do the same in the chat thingey (room, talker...?) . Is there a real time talker type program that i can use even if it's only on the BBS?

mo: easy questions have easy answers ;)

Uncensored is a fully functioning mail system but we don't grant permission to send Internet mail by default, because unfortunately it gets exploited by spammers. However I'd be happy to enable Internet mail on your account and will do so right now.

The chat function operates on a per-room basis. In other words, when you enter chat, you will be communicating with anyone who is also logged into chat in the SAME room you're in. Unfortunately this function doesn't get much use on Uncensored.

Subject: Calendar Event Reminder

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi All,

I've just finished getting Citadel running on my old Debian web server, so a big thanks to all the developers.

At this stage I am using it to share a calendar with two other people. I have managed to get it to send us all an email when anyone alters the calender, so that's cool, but I can't find any information on automated reminders.

Is there a way to get Citadel to send me an email a set period of time before a calendar event?

Thanks again.

Subject: Pop3 retrieval and server-side mail filters

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Citadel 7.86 on Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit)

Server-Side filter rule:  Subject Is "test example" Move message to XXX and then stop.

If I send a test email to user admin, with subject "test example", from a Thunderbird client connected via IMAP to our Citadel server, the filter fires and moves the email from admin's inbox to XXX as expected.

However when Citadel retrieves emails viaPOP3 from our external (ISPhosted) email server, the filters appear less reliable, So, for instance, an email with subject "test example", will not trigger the filter and remains in admin's inbox.

Is there an obvious explanation for this behaviour?
