I've taken the liberty of rearranging some of the rooms and floors, here...I've deleted a few rooms that have gone unused for quite a while, consolidated rooms into floors, and deleted a few floors, too.

I'll probably try to seed some of the more fun rooms with something...I'm curious to see who's been visiting, anyhow, and if we can get some of the kooks going again.

Weird. Changed my password a few days ago and it's reverted. Did you back up for some reason?

Yes, it looks like an 'upgrade' has gone into effect. Better shut down dogpound2 bbs until you get those emails under control...

Emails?

I tried to upgrade, it didn't work as I'd hoped...I wound up having to restore from backup.

Not sure when you'd changed your password...the backup that I restored was yesterday's.

No matter on the pw but there were a lot of emails in most rooms this afternoon.
Weird that they didn't tranmit to Haven though.

They came in from another system on the network...but the rooms might not have all been shared with Haven.

Looks like a page or email on one box.

If it comes in via a room, on the other system, that's shared, it can and will make it here.

Are network messages from Dogpound2 going direct to other nodes or is Iggy filtering them before dispersal?

Only the nodes to which we directly connect...of which, there are 10 other than uncnsrd.

I ran a dialup bbs on my Commodore 64 with daisey chained floppy drives for storage, starting back in the mid 1980s. Back in the early 90s I ran a version of Citidel on my Amiga for a while... this board has some of the the feel of the old citidel with a graphic interface... COOL!

Around 1994 I finally gave up when my daily callers went away after discovering the "internet" on AOL and sources like that. I kept the separate modem line for a long time for my own access to dialing in to the internet portals.

I'm not sure I want to get back into running a bbs again as I now have a blog that seems to satisfy my urge to be published "W8NSI on the Web" but this sure brings back some memories (after looking over your rooms). I have thought of adding a bbs or forum to my site for two way communication with my blog followers.

Where is this software available from nowadays? Never mind... just googled it [citadel.org]... but looks like it has gone linux/*nix only. May be time for me to take another look at Ubuntu.

It hasn't "gone linux/unix only" so much as the only version that has been maintained at all in the last 20 years has been the version written for linux/unix.

And the next version is going to have a blogging engine built in, so you could actually merge your blog into a BBS. :)

In 1990 I launched Tropical Paradise running Citadel 86 on an original IBM PC.  All topic drift, all day.  The Citadel program was on a 3.5" floppy, while the message base was on a 5.25" floppy.

Very cool.

I started out running Citadel:K2NE on a 286, eventually moved it to an OS/2 system, at one point, moved that from the modem to the internet, and then, eventually, built this beast on a Linux system. It's survivied multiple hardware moves, numerous OS upgrades, and a conversion to 64bit.
