Oh come on, the baby-face sun totally rocks! It's the best thing about that show.

Heh. You know better than that. I'm not one of those wacko Bible-pounder types who assume that everything secular is evil. :)

Bear is really great. It's all done with muppets -- no live action, not even 'special guest' appearances like they did in Henson's earlier work. And I think the music is really well done. As with a lot of children's programming, there's a second level of humor in the writing that keeps the grown-ups entertained too.

I end up watching a lot of Rolly-Polly Ole, and Bear in the Big Blue House, and all those Disney shows. My son really likes them. Better than Barney.
We also watch Sesame Street.

Those are just a couple of references which suggest that Bear promotes ideals which are "pagan compatible." It is not, however, officially a pagan show; it's not officially *anything* ... it's presented as a secular program with universal appeal.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a cute show that teaches good moral lessons to kids -- lessons that no religion has a monopoly on.

Bear is pagan? I had no idea. :) It doesn't bug me or anything, I just hadn't picked up on that at all.

First of all, IGnatius, and anyone else wondering, I, Deety, am a she, not a he. :) :) Just to avoid gender goofs in the future. Deety's the female lead in an Isaac Asimov book, but that's not anime.

Veggie is what we DBZ people "lovingly" call Vegeta, Prince of All Sayans. He's not exactly a good guy, but he's cool.

As for VeggieTales, yeah, they're kinda cute, and dumb, but what kid cartoon isn't dumb? :)

True, Oh Great SysGhod! :) Oh, to correct a very great error, Deety is not an Asimov character, she's a brazen Heinlein hussy. :)

Could be; I've read only TNOTB.

You know, my daughter is so into anime that ALL she listens to is Japanese music from a few animes, mostly DB or DBZ, though.

I just bought Akira on DVD tonight and watched it..
I forgot how well this movie is animated.. Is there anything
that even compares to it ?!

I haven't really followed the Anime scene and could use some
suggestions...

Has anyone seen Metropolis or Princess Monoke(sp?) ?
