TiVo usually doesn't do cable or satellite systems on their own. They license their PVR technology out to cable and satellite companies, who in turn have some random home electronics company build the boxes.

Philips, builder of a number of TiVo units, builds the DirecTiVo boxes, too.

But those don't have HD capabilities, either. Some of that has to come from the software, as well as the hardware to output.

There's a DirectTV HD Tivo, the HR10-250..... Only $1000.

Yeah. I've been waiting for those things to come down before I go HD.

I have absolutely no desire for HDTV *anything* right now. I've got the biggest screen that will fit in the space available for it (a 32" direct view) and standard-def looks just great on it.

But then again, I never buy anything cutting-edge. I always wait until it's a gen or two old and get a better price.

Well, I got a 50" HD-capable TV...open box, projection style...got a pretty good deal on it, I think.

Then I guess he and I have something in common. Recently I've been getting very irritated by A/V magazines telling me that I am the tech-consumer equivalent of pond scum unless I buy an expensive HDTV. Being the spiteful type that I am, it only makes me love my SDTV even more.

Eh, I'd buy the HDTV now if I had the cash laying around. I don't, so I don't.
When I can reasonably afford it, though, this old TV is going bye-bye.

I'm not buying until it's cheap.

I just don't care enough about television for it to be worth my while.

better yet we like other people's affordable standard def televisions.
To date I have never purchased a television, all mine were hand-me-downs.
I think the one I have now is 19 inch and the remote was busted, but the tv works fine, mostly.

Just as well -- most of what's on television is crap anyway.
