...back when there was such a thing as "an IBM-compatible computer," as opposed to a Mac or an Amiga or whatever...

Somehow I don't think those messages were supposed to be here. Did somebody let the bugs loose again?

Don't you just love all the politicians who keep on repeating the same thing over and over and over again?

Yes, you do. What that has to do with IBM, I have no idea.

I am deleting this room on Uncensored. Anyone sharing it on the network, please disconnect it.

There just isn't anything relevant about a room for MS-DOS compatible computers anymore.

That's a narrow view of what IBM is all about.  Aside from AIX, they really don't support any OS.  Their big Iron's are the only real hardware they have left (desktop/laptops sold off already to Lenovo, and servers are being built by Dell as best anyone can tell. ) IBM is all about services now, and even at that, they have sold off part of their service department to AT&T.  I left IBM two months ago, and it was good timing.  between LEAN and other usless over managed initiatives, they are not the company they used to be.

I work as an AIX administrator...and am about to start a new job where I get to not only deal with the OS, but I get to start dealing with the Hardware Management Consoles, LPAR profiles, and the hardware, itself.

I'm actually quite excited.

Freak - From what I hear HMC is pretty cool. I'll be seeing more of it in the I5/OS land in a couple of months at a conference.

The last IBM PC Server I bought was just a few months ago, and it looks nothing like a Dell server.  Now often a company will put together computers for various other companies.  I used to work for Entex INformation SErvices which had a manufacturing plant in Erlanger, Kentucky.  At that plant we assembled computers for HP, IBM, Compaq, Dell, Toshiba.  Plus we made the cables for Belkin and a few others.

So Dell could be putting together the computers for IBM for all I know.  I know that there are only 4 companies that put together laptops anymore.   So the Macintosh, Dell, and Levono laptops are done by one company, another one does Toshiba, and Acer, and the third does Hp/Compaq, Panasonic, and a few others.
